The Babes and Broads Who Broke the Rules!
WONDERBROADS, the award-winning 20 song, two-act original comedy musical, written, composed and directed by Melinda E. Pittman, is fast-paced and funny, spiced with zinging satire and political insight spiraling around 40 American women who influenced and reinvented our world ~ babes and broads who broke the rules. WONDERBROADS opened in 2000, and has toured regionally and (a little) nationally on and off for seven years. Now, BroadArts Theatre is bringing WONDERBROADS back to our home base for a new production. The production opens in April for a five-weekend run in Portland. The Babes and Broads are also available for appearances at organizational events, conferences, arts councils and theatres and bowling alleys throughout the Northwest.
WONDERBROADS won the Angus L. Bowmer Drama Awards for the 2000 Oregon Book Awards. Rohan Preston, the judge for the award and the lead theater critic of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, wrote:
"This piece … makes delightful theatre. It's witty and sometimes sardonic, and it never loses its focus; this satiric revue succeeds in its humor. You never stop being engaged; you want to root on the characters and the playwright."
