BroadArts Summer Peace Theatre Camp

Peace Camp, supported in part by the McKenzie River Gathering Foundation (http://www.mrgfoundation.org/) is in its 4th year. Over 200 children have attended Peace Camp in the past and taught their instructors many wonderful things.

Campers age 8-12 will learn, using creative arts as tools, to better handle conflict, build resolution skills and enable “win-win’ in situations. Role play, theatre, arts, music and more construct the curriculum to drive an increased understanding of the effects violence and war have on our personal and family lives.

BroadArts Theatre's camps encourage students to create, experience & explore the nature & practice of peace. Students work with professional theatre artists/educators using writing, acting, movement, improvisation, clowning, singing & illustration to create their own vision of what peace means. Each session culminates in a shared presentation with family & friends, enabling students to experience the joy and gratification of collaboration and performance.

Students are introduced to theatre and other artistic techniques in a friendly, safe and fun environment, explore the work of global peacemakers and develop skills such as cooperation, peaceful communication & awareness.

Peace Camp Coordinators for 2010 are Pepper Kim, Educator, and Barb Eichberger, BroadArts Board Member. Trainers and teachers will include those who have worked with BroadArts in the past in shows, as actors and as staff and supporters.

Volunteer opportunities are still open for camp administration, drop off and pick up coordination, teachers aids and more. Visit the site for peace camp, and choose the volunteer opportunities link. Register your children early to reserve your space in this summers BroadArts Peace Camp.

Celebrate the mystery of a New Year's genesis at the World Premier of

A/BROAD FOR ALL SEASONS

Part of PATA's Fertile Ground Festival

Aung San Suu Kyi? Wangari Maathai? Mairead Corrigan Maguire? Bonnie Tinker? Who are these mystery women? Why are their spirits appearing at the same place, at the same time, at the beginning of the world's turning? And what does their presence have to do with me?

BroadArts Theatre invites you to solve the mystery at A/BROAD FOR ALL SEASONS, our newest original theatre-comedy with music.

If you saw WONDERBROADS, our musical that won the Oregon Book Award for Best Drama, then you are familiar with the energy and fun of our shows. In this sequel, A/BROAD overflows with BroadArts Theatre's trademark funny, edgy, dangerous, factual, inspiring, sexy, interactive performance.

In A/BROAD FOR ALL SEASONS, the Goddess Lilith has reached her elder years. Lilith, embodied by BroadArts' Artistic Director Melinda E. Pittman, hires a personal assistant to help her finish her memoirs. Lilith's protégé tires of the older woman's attitude and outlandish tales. The titans clash as they each struggle to create and re-create the world they want to live in. And then there is that mystery stranger, knocking at the door, knocking at the door...

Through harmonies, historica and hysterica, the story of our continued progress toward an inclusive and sustainable world unfolds.

BroadArts Theatre offers a second helping of our hit musical

FAT & SASSY II:
One Size Fits!

A tasty musical about Women of Substance,
and who's getting rich off of America getting fat!

“I'm not fat. My body just naturally retains chocolate.”

BroadArts Theatre has cooked up a hot-from-the-oven sizzling comedy treat, FAT & SASSY II: One Size Fits!, opening October 23, 2009. Designed to celebrate people of ALL sizes, FAT & SASSY II is a smorgasbord of a musical, serving up an aerobic workout of comedy and music from hot yoga to hot chocolate and back again.

Written and composed by BroadArts' Artistic Director, Melinda E. Pittman, and directed by Sharon Mann, with musical direction by Dan Linn, the musical features an ensemble cast of women of substance and sings and satirizes its way through the all-you-can-eat buffet of diets, drugs, corporate greed, media brainwashing and discouragement that surround many people of size.

Award winning author Pittman says, “Big people are tired of being blamed for the greed of the fast food, advertising and diet industry. We're fat! So what? It's time to sing the praises of our whole luscious selves!”
